Girls Football Leagues 2017/2018

Wednesday 18th April saw the conclusion of the Girls' Football league competition in its debut year. The final took place at Parmiter’s school with 7 schools attending, the top two from each of the three leagues and the two best third place teams: Christ Church (Red), Sarratt (Red), The Russell (Red), Little Green (Blue), St Josephs (Blue), Orchard (Yellow), Tanners Wood (Yellow) and Alban Wood (Yellow).

The teams were split into two pools, with the winner of Pool A facing the runner-up of Pool B and the Winner of Pool B facing the runner-up of Pool A in the semi-finals. After the intense group stage, The Russell topped Pool A with Tanners Wood qualifying through as runner up. In Pool B, it was Christ Church who were victorious whilst St Josephs came second.

The Semi Finals were The Russell vs St Josephs and Christ Church vs Tanners Wood. The Russell convincingly beat St Josephs 2-0 while Tanners Wood went through after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. The final saw Tanners Wood face The Russell, a repeat of a group stage fixture which ended 0-0. Like their previous encounter, the match was incredibly close with both teams struggling to score due to some great defensive displays. The full time whistle was blown after no goals were scored and the game went to penalties. The Russell were crowned champions of the inaugral SSP Girls' Football league after all three penalties were successfully converted.

Congratulations to the Girls from The Russell as well as their dedicated team of coaches and teachers!

Now it’s time for our next league competition: Rounders!
